September 10 Weekend at ByronWent to Byron Bay for the weekend; stayed in a lovely apartment with our mates Carl and Sue.. www.byronstay.com/absolutelybyron.html Awesome! August 31 Our HouseWell it took a while, but this could be our first home! Currently at the contract stage, it looks like we might be the new residents of 86 Weller Rd, Tarragindi! http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&s=qld&cc=&c=7282487&tm=1155957623&id=103153501&f=120&p=30&t=res&ty=&snf=ras-bri&ag=&cu=fn-rea&fmt=&header= Ethic EssayWagers, bets and other games of chance have been with us since the dawn of human intelligence. The Greek gods are said to have divided the universe by the roll of a die and in Australia, gambling has been an inherent part of our society since the founding of the first colony. As our community and its culture evolve, gambling has become more entrenched in the national psyche as numerous legal businesses have built up around the pastime. Like other businesses, these organisations seek to broaden their customer base, expand profit margins and remain competitive in the current market. As they trial new marketing avenues, such as discounted or free accommodation, food and alcohol, we are presented with a dilemma; is it ethical to offer inducements to encourage people to gamble? ‘No such thing as a free lunch’ and ‘freedom of choice’ are maxims that have particular relevance in this situation. As educated consumers, most Australians are aware that you don’t get something for nothing. However, if there is a choice between 2 identical products, the one that offers free ‘add-ons’ must be a better bet. To assess whether this test is appropriate, ask yourself this; If businesses in every industry offered free extras with their products, would they be disrespecting you, their customer, and would you have a problem accepting these extras above another product at the same price? For me the answer is no, as just last week I purchased one particular toothbrush, for the sole reason that it came with free toothpaste. Now, what is the outcome of such an action? Logically, those businesses offering inducements are more likely to influence their potential customers to make legal buying decisions toward their product. Is the organisation acting solely in its own interest? Well that’s a complex issue, but here are some facts. A casino, for example, employs hundreds of people across many professions, in a growing industry that contributes significantly to taxes. These government revenues are then spent across a myriad of community programs such as, education, transport and health (including addiction management initiatives) that benefit our society. As a member of the global community I had no problem in accepting a couple of free beers when recently on holiday at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Does that make me a bad person for accepting them, or the Casino owner unethical for giving them away? In this case, my partner and I toasted the owners, remarked on what good character they had, and preceded to have a great time. Considering the role of gambling in our history and that the vast majority of adult Australians partake of the activity in some form or another, it can hardly be said that an organisation that gives us free stuff to do what we are doing anyway can be acting unethically. Whether gambling is ethical is a separate debate, but for firms operating in a legal industry and contributing massive amounts of funding for public services to offer complimentary products to their customers seems a simple proposition for me; it’s just good business. June 10 Happy Birthday MoAs you can see from the pics, it was my little sis' birthday party on Friday.
It was a great night and it was awesome to party with my now not so little sister!
Love ya Mor-goon!
Ali June 07 World CupJust over 2 days until the world cup starts!!!
Go Aussies! Quarter - Final at the least for our boys after their recent win over Greece and draw with the Dutch.
I will be watching the first few games from Jervis bay, as its my sister Morgan's 21st birthday party on Friday just before the games begin!
My uni exams also start next Tuesday, so I am trying to cram in as much study now before the tournament begins!
Tara is going very well at work and is hell bent at becoming a gym junkie at the moment..
I also have a few spare Ashes tickets for Saturday 4 in Brisbane, so if anyone is interested, let me know!!
Ali May 14 Seaworld and Bad Sporting AttireIt's been a while since our last blog entry and we've been busy little Brisbanites..
Luke and Kel kicked off the festivities when they came up for the weekend at the start of May. On the spur of the moment we decided to go to the Australia vs New Zealand Rugby League Anzac Test. The Aussies romped home with a convincing win and I bumped into my old teacher, Mr Webb who is my mate Brent Webb's father (Brent is the starting fullback for the Kiwi's).
On Saturday we headed down the GC with Luke and Kel and had a pleasant afternoon at Sea World. The polar bear was hilarious, trying to climb up the glass wall and there is a new attraction; Shark Bay.. You can swim with the sharks for only $55 so that might be on the cards for later in the year..
Then, this week we went to a Bad Sporting attire party for one of Tara's workmates. We were part of the 1981 Davis Cup Tennis Team and managed to throw together some excellent costumes at the last minute. the short shorts were actually quite comfy, if a little breezy.. May 02 Happy Birthday Tara!As you may know, Tara turned 26 on Sunday the 30th April.
She had a huge night on Friday (see attached pic) as ger team at work came first in the country and had a few bevvies to celebrate.
On her birthday, after a morning walk and breakfast of Smoked Salmon, avo, tomato and poached eggs, we went to the Caxton St Seafood Festival and saw Russell Crow and his band play.. (see videos for a glimpse)
We had lots of fun and even bumped into our mate Gommy who was back from london for a fortnight for a wedding..
It was a great day, made even better by the fact that the Monday was a public holiday!
Happy Birthday babe!! April 17 The Gold Coast!!Hiya,

We stayed in a nice 1 bed appartment, met up with our friend Sharna for her birthday, played mini golf and Ali's little bro Joshua stayed the last night and we took him shopping and got him a huge remote control car..
On the way home we stopped at Wet n Wild, a giant water park and it was rather fun..
Enclosed are some pics of the adventures..

Well done Tara!! April 02 NewsIt's only taken a month and a half, but Ali has finally got off his arse and gone and played some b'ball.. He played quite well considering it was his first game in 5 years, scoring 12 of the team's 35 points..
In other new's the $8 Aldi toaster karked it this morning, meaning that the mornings bacon and eggs was accompanied by grilled toast, rather than the traditional toasted variety..
Also, Tara has a new pair of shoes, ready for her first day as a recruitment agent. Lets just hope that the covered toe variety, which is apparently required for Occupational Health and Safety reasons are as comfortable as Tara's preferred version, coloquially known as 'open toed shoes'. It's gobbledeygook to Ali though..
And now here's Stacey with the weather..... Drum roll please................Well the time has finally come!
Tara and Ali are finally tying the knot and getting married..
Plans are swinging into action as we speak and we already have a few details to share:
Enclosed are some pics of JB..
March 30 Oooh Who blogged on the carpet!Hi All and thanks for reading installment 1 in the extraordinary adventures of Ali and Tarz.
Today's News:
Ali quit his job as a recruitment agent.. Had a difference of opinion with the agency owner as they were only 60% of target for the month and wouldn't let him send out some stats to the team or coach them.. Usually it's the other way round; the boss gets rid of the consultant cause he can't sell!!
Tara got told off for working too hard for the brisbane council in her temp job..Maybe it's a Brisbane thing...
Thrilling stuff hey!
Stay tuned for our next adventures!!!!!!!! |
